Apathy is rampant

This morning I saw a video about a chinese toddler who wandered out into the road and was hit by a van. The video was graphic and it shocked me to the core. The child was hit by the front set of tires and the van stopped with her underneath. The driver knew they had hit something. They paused because they were trying to figure out what to do. If the driver would have gotten out of the car she would have only been hit once. Instead he kept going, running over her stomach slowly. You can see in the video that she is crying and moving her arms, terrified and probably just wanting her mommy. She could only have been about 3 years old.
What proceeded after the incident is the most shocking, and I'm getting cold chills as I write it. Many chinese pedestrians walked right on by the incident without helping. A few people didnt even look down. Maybe they didnt notice the child, but I doubt it. Then, another van drives down the road. The driver doesnt see her and rolls over her leg, crushing it into an indescribable mess. He also does not stop, but you know he felt the thud of rolling over an object. More pedestrians pass without helping this little baby girl. One bicyclist even stares the child down while he rolls on by. I would say about 6 people pass this dying little girl before finally an older woman drags her out of the road. She pulls her to the side and keeps walking. She was kind enough to get her out of harms way but not enough to really save her life and get her to a hospital. Finally, a younger woman comes and scoops up the baby girl and takes her to a hospital. I read on to find out that she is still in critical care. I hope this baby survives, but what kind of world is she being saved to live in? Where people won't help her when she really needs it?
The story blamed everyones action of apathy on the Chinese government. Not long ago a teenaged boy found an elderly woman that had fallen and took her to the hospital like any caring human would do. She proceded to blame him for making her fall, even though he wasnt even there when it happened. The chinese government said logically no one would have taken her to the hospital unless they were responsible for the accident, so naturally, he was the criminal. He had to pay for her hospital bills and a warning went out to the chinese to take heed of this ruling and beware.
Honestly though, I dont blame it on the chinese. I have seen comments all day warning me not to buy chinese products because look at the monsters I am supporting. No, I'm sure things like this happensin America too but we just dont know about it. People are more apathetic than ever before. I pray for the future of our world...
